Goal Setting 101

goal setting Jan 02, 2019

Here's the thing with goal setting, it's important. But not nearly as important as the follow through.

I recognize that It's tough to get started tho too...

Here are my top 3 tips for getting motivated to set goals, and achieve them in your life and business.

1. Dream, dream, dream.  Think about the most perfect day, and what the most perfect life for you would be like.  Create an image in your mind of what that would entail, and how you would feel.

2. Get a journal, and a nice writing utensil. For me I buy the same plain black one every year, and keep it with me all the time. but you do you and  get one that you love, that sparks your soul, and will make you excited to work on your goals and changing your business and your life.

3. Get your head in the game.  Goal setting is easy, its achieving your goals and the work that gets you there that can get sticky. You MUST have your head in the right spot, with a positive mindset in...

What holds you back + invitation

Sometimes it’s so overwhelming we just don’t do anything. Sometimes it’s that we literally are so overwhelmed we don’t know where to start.
And sometimes it’s the lack of clarity and what we want in our businesses that hold us back from trying to do anything.

It’s incredible how much of our emotions can block our success.
I had to figure it out for me. I had to say “how am I going to do all of this behind the chair, and then still grow and work on my business?!” I had to find hidden time and get a little uncomfortable, but I did, and it worked. And then I shared what I was doing and it worked again. And again and again. Now I want to share those same systems with you. So that YOU can banish the overwhelmed feeling, and have clarity, and what we want in our businesses that hold us back from trying to do anything.

It’s incredible how much of our emotions can block our success.

gratitude all day errr day.

Uncategorized Sep 11, 2018

There's something about it.  It's so weird once you put it into practice what happens in your life. I'm not sure that anything really "happens" or changes, but what I do know is that your outlook, and mindset does change in a positive direction.... and that can move mountains.

back to Gratitude. My fave word.  ... I start my day with the first thing that comes to mind of what i'm grateful for and add it to my to-do list, before anything else goes on it.

...

Today I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with YOU and that the response I’m getting from you is positive!

...

It’s so exciting for me to continue this journey and to learn as I go what is working best for you and what I can do better to serve and teach in a more effective way. ...

...

I’m grateful for a host of other things big, small and silly, but first thing this am you were on my mind; this chance I have to share, and to impart my fast route to success; to avoid my mistakes. The...

Wednesday 5 Minute To-Do In Your Biz

I like to call them "zombies"... clients you have seen, but not lately. They are due to come in, but walking around with whack hair most likely.

Todays 5 minute actionable to-do in your business:

Check out your books from the last quarter and see who is missing, or due to come in. I try and remember a little something that was coming up in their life, and mention that as well as that they might be ready for an appointment in the PERSONALIZED text or email I send to them.

Example: "Hey Lexi! hope your vacation to Scotland was amazing! Can't wait to hear all about it! It's coming up on 8 weeks since we had an appointment, if your ready to come in let me know, and if your still looking good let me know when you are ready!" I will throw in a thumbs up emoji or have a great day, happy Friday, etc etc at the end of the message.

Keep it light and casual, with no pressure. I use this #1 to fill up my book with people who don't pre book, and #2 to help people who really don't prioritize...

Three steps to be happier at work!

happiness work tips Sep 03, 2018

Happiness is an inside job. I know its cheesy, but its true.   these simple three steps will help you get the right mindset and thoughts in your head, and keep it all top of mind, in order to have more balance and happiness at work. Let me know if you have any other happy at work go to's!

3 ways to be happier at work:

  1. Take charge of your own personal and professional development

- get something on the calendar today, schedule yourself time.

 - Even if you just schedule 30 min a week to watch YouTube videos(cutting technique, balyage, etc)

- have a plan, don’t just let this magically happen to you. You make it happen

  1. Be prepared. Plan ahead and you will have very little stress at work.

- look at your schedule and inventory at the end of the week for the next week. Is there anything you need to buy, need to research, any one you need to follow up with to be sure you are prepared? Send reminders so you don’t have no shows?

Yikes! Mission Statement??!!

Uncategorized Aug 09, 2018

BORING ALERT!! Just kidding, but mission statements and target customers are the topic today and something we freaking need to talk about more.

I know that for the first really half of my business so like 5 years I didn’t have a clue who my target customer was, and my mission statement I had only written once on my papers for the bank when I originally got my loan. Lol. Some banker way back was like this is total BS, but sure we will give you loads of money to play business with.

Good news is I am not “playing business” and never was, but when I wrote that mission statement I didn’t understand why you had a mission statement- I just knew when I googled how to make a business plan for loan presentation it said I needed one. Then I googled how to write one.  Thank goodness for google.  Remember this is in 2005 and 2006 when I was prepping and planning to open my salon, and salons were not the way they are today. I knew I...

Hey! Who is this girl anyways??

Uncategorized Jan 15, 2018

I'm Lexi,

Salon Owner, hairstylist, makeup gal, industry educator, salon business and success junkie, a wannabe foodie, travel gal and wifey to Josh Oldenburg.

That's the short version, the Instagram profile version.  The long version is that I am all of those things, and will break each down independently here.

Salon owner: I opened my salon almost 11 years ago! I was 20 and people thought I was nuts. Except my parents who always have supported me and fully believed in me.  The experience and adversity I faced was  something I would never give up or trade because I learned SO much, most of which is what I attribute my success to now. Fast forward from 2007 to 2018, and I have a blooming staff of 25, in the same location, two assistants, and work behind the chair myself 5 days a week.

Hairstylist and makeup gal:  I opened my salon during finals week while I was getting my bachelors at UCSD.  So to say I have always been a stylist,...
